Show Me Fire Privacy Policy
Effective date: July 21, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Show Me Fire ("Show Me Fire," "we," "us," or "our") handles information when you use the Show Me Fire mobile application or visit showmefire.org. Show Me Fire is the operator responsible for the practices described here. The app is currently offered in the United States.
Questions or privacy requests may be submitted through our Contact page.
1. Information handled by the mobile app
Information kept on your device
The app stores your notification choices, selected Missouri counties, and a randomly generated installation identifier on your device. These local preferences remain until you change them, clear the app's data, or remove the app.
If you choose Use my location once, the app requests foreground location permission and uses your device's location and geocoding services to identify a Missouri county. Show Me Fire does not receive or store your precise coordinates. You may deny location access and select a county manually instead.
Information sent to Show Me Fire
When you enable notifications, the app sends the following information to our API:
- A randomly generated installation identifier and Expo push token;
- Your device platform and app version;
- The notification categories you enable;
- Selected county FIPS codes, including a county identified using the optional location feature; and
- Push-delivery ticket identifiers, status information, and delivery errors.
We use this information only to maintain the notification service, deliver the statewide or county-specific fire-weather information you requested, troubleshoot delivery, and prevent sending to devices that are no longer registered. The app does not require an account.
2. Information handled by the website
Website operations and security
Cloudflare processes technical information such as IP addresses, browser and device characteristics, request details, and security signals to deliver and protect the website and API. Cloudflare may place strictly necessary cookies for these purposes.
Consent-based analytics
If you select Accept in the website cookie banner, Google Analytics processes information about website visits, such as pages viewed, approximate location derived from an IP address, browser and device information, and interactions with the site. IP anonymization is enabled. Analytics storage remains denied if you reject cookies or do not make a choice. We do not enable advertising storage, advertising personalization, or advertising user-data consent.
Contact requests
If you use our Contact page, you choose to provide your name, email address, subject, and message. Web3Forms processes that submission to deliver it to the Show Me Fire team. We use it only to respond to your request and maintain necessary support records.
3. How and why we use information
We use information described in this policy to:
- Provide forecasts, situation reports, and requested fire-weather notifications;
- Apply county-specific notification preferences;
- Operate, secure, maintain, and troubleshoot our website, API, and notification service;
- Respond to questions, bug reports, feedback, and privacy requests; and
- Understand website usage when analytics consent has been granted.
We do not sell personal information, serve behavioral advertising, combine app identifiers with third-party profiles, share information with data brokers, or use information for cross-app tracking.
4. Service providers and disclosures
We use the following providers only for the purposes described above:
- Cloudflare for website and API delivery, performance, and security;
- Google Analytics for consent-based website analytics;
- Web3Forms and its listed infrastructure and spam-prevention subprocessors for contact-form delivery and abuse prevention;
- Expo Push Service to route notifications to platform notification services; and
- Apple Push Notification Service to deliver notifications to Apple devices.
We may also disclose information when required by law, to protect users or our services, or as part of a service transfer in which the recipient agrees to protect the information consistently with this policy. These providers may process information in the United States or other locations where they operate.
5. Retention and deletion
- We keep an active push subscription while at least one notification category is enabled. Turning off all notification categories deletes the server-side subscription, push token, and associated delivery records. A device-unregistered response also causes the subscription to be deleted.
- Push-delivery tickets and receipts are automatically deleted after seven days.
- Contact inquiries are kept only as needed to resolve the request. We delete copies under our control and direct our form processor to delete the related submission record within 90 days after resolution, unless a longer period is reasonably necessary for security or required by law.
- Google Analytics event-level data uses the shortest available retention setting. Aggregated or de-identified reports may remain after event-level data expires.
- Cloudflare and other providers retain information according to their own policies and our service settings.
6. Your choices and privacy requests
- Decline location permission and select counties manually.
- Turn off individual or all notification categories in the app's Settings screen.
- Manage notification and location permissions in your device settings.
- Reject optional analytics using the website cookie banner.
- Ask to access, correct, or delete information associated with you by using our Contact page.
Turning off all notification categories is the direct way to delete an anonymous push subscription. Because the app has no accounts and we do not connect installation identifiers to names or email addresses, we may be unable to reliably locate a different installation from a contact request. We may need to verify other requests before acting on them.
7. Security
We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards designed to protect information. Network communications use HTTPS, and access to operational systems is limited. No storage or transmission system can be guaranteed completely secure.
8. Children's privacy
Show Me Fire is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided information to us, please use our Contact page so we can investigate and delete it when appropriate.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as our services or legal obligations change. We will update the effective date above and provide additional notice when a change materially affects how we handle information.
